January 2018 z-News

Happy New Year, zAmFam!

2018 is off to roaring start for zAmya Theater Project! This month we are kicking off our year-long residency at Minneapolis Central Library on Nicollet Mall.  Our weekly workshops started TODAY. We would love for you to join us next week! At these creative sessions, we’ll be generating material and casting roles for our ‘Dramatic Encounters” on Nicollet Mall this spring, and a full production in the fall. No skills or experience required – join us on Mondays to share your story and be a part of zAmya’s next venture!

Next Wednesday, January 31st at 7pm we’ll present Just Us: Out of the Cycle, Into the Circle in the Pohlad Auditorium (in the Minneapolis Central Library) during Super Bowl LIVE – a ten-day fan festival on Nicollet Mall. While some of you may want to avoid downtown Minneapolis during the Super Bowl, some of you may want a good excuse to come check it out and we’re hoping to be just that. As exciting as it is for Minneapolis to be in the national spotlight like this, it’s not without stress and impact on residents – homeless and housed. The advocacy community is on overdrive working to minimize disruption to services. This special zAmya production is an opportunity to be in community and show support – as well as learn more about how to support housing for all in an ongoing way.

In Other z-News...

We’ve learned recently of the passing of another longtime zAmya Troupe member: Donald “Big Daddy" Fonzy. Donald was a huge influence in zAmya’s earlier years, originating the role of the “The Gambler” in No Place Like Home, originating the role of the "Subprime Mortgage Robot," and creating the “Don-o-logue,” his personal story of recovery through transitional housing told so beautifully in “Ten You Win, Ten You Lose” (2006).

Rest In Peace and Power, Donald Fonzy.

And Some CHEERS:

zAmya was selected to be part of the Wedge and Linden Hills Cooperatives "Change Matters" Program! Get ready to round UP next October!
